Braintrainer meets the iPhone. This game by dBelement is their first game/puzzle and as introductions to the world of gaming go they have made a good start. The game/puzzle gives you a variety of questions to test your intelligence. It is timed and keeps score so you can track your progress. It provides a good brain work out while being fast paced and fun.
This is a picture and text based game that is not full up of unnecessary content that slows the game down. It all runs from a basic menu system that is very at home on an iPhone and iPod Touch. It is based around three main sections; test, training and stats. These section are then based around four testing areas; math, memory, judgement and reflexes.
The test section gives you random questions from all the test areas while timing the test. At the end of the test it tells you how well you have done. This score is also held in the score section to review anytime.
The training section is very similar to the test section but only concentrates on one of the test areas e.g. math. This allows the user to improve their knowledge by specifically concentrating on an area they are not so familiar with. Another difference with the training section is that if you get the question wrong it allows you to have as many goes as you require to find the right answer. This therefore allows the user to find out where they went wrong and what the correct answer is thus improving their knowledge.
The score section shows you the recent scores you achieved for the recent tests as a whole and broken down into the individual test areas. Also included are high scores for every person who has used the game for the whole test and the test areas.
Overall this is a very well designed game/puzzle which is easy to use and an adequate challenge to stretch your mind and increase your knowledge. The only downfall is that it requires you to register for an account before you play. This is alas free and easy to do and only requires a preferred username and password along with an email address. This I suppose is a good way of recording previous scores but it would be nice if a user account was not mandatory. This of course would mean that scores could not be held for non account holders but is a minor trade off for people wanting to just play the game without signing up. Other than this minor thing it is a very good game/puzzle. Great work guys.
